Employ an Apprentice and save on National Insurance

Employ an Apprentice and save on National Insurance

Another great reason for employing an Apprentice.  From April 2015 employers of Apprentices or young people aged under 21 will no longer pay secondry or employers National Insurance. Its a welcome change announced in December 2013 but details are now becoming available. The young person has to earn less than the upper secondry threshold which is 42,385 per year.  Employers need to know the exact date of birth of the Apprentice or young person and make changes to their NI category letter code. This should be done before the first payroll run for 2015/2016.  As far as we know the 0% band saving applies to all young people aged under 21.

In the 2014 autumn statement the Chancellor also said that he would be extending the scheme for Apprentices aged under 25 from April 2016 meaning even more savings.

In addition to saving on National Insurance employers may be eligible for the AGE grant of 1500.  In London the grant is now 3000 for eligible employers.
