You do not have to stay on at school until you are 18

Are you considering an Apprenticeship?

You can leave school at 16 if you are in an apprenticeship.  Three questions...:
1 - Do you want to earn money while working towards achieving a qualification?
2 - Are there any other options for me once I have done my GCSE’s?
3 - Do you want to know more?
If you answered YES to all three questions, then this may be of interest to you!

The Government is increasing the age that all young people in England must continue in education or training or employment with training until they are 17 years old from 2013.   From 2015 they will need to stay on until their 18th birthday.   It’s called Raising the Participation Age (RPA).

Raising the participation age (RPA) does not mean young people must stay in school; you will be able to choose one of the following options post-16:

1 - full-time education, such as school, college or home education
2 - an Apprenticeship from aged 16
3 - part-time education or training if you are employed, self-employed or volunteering full-time (which is defined as 20 hours or more a week).

The benefits of an Apprenticeship that could matter to you are:
• Earning a salary
• Training in the skills that employers want
• Increased future earning potential
• Excellent progression opportunities
• Better long-term salary prospects
• Learning at a pace to suit YOU
• Three entry points and progression through the different levels

You can apply to be an Apprentice by searching for companies that are employing Apprentices at the Find an Apprenticeship Service.
