Worrying about Coronavirus?

Whilst it is vital that we all maintain proper hygiene, washing our hands regularly and using tissues to catch coughs or sneezes, and monitoring our physical health, it is also important that we consider our mental health during this time.
  • Limit your news intake and only use reputable sources such as the UK Government and NHS websites. Social media such as Facebook and Twitter are great for staying in touch with friends/family but please be aware that there is a lot of misinformation being spread. Instead of constantly checking the news, set a specific time during the day when you can catch up on the relevant information without overwhelming yourself.

  • If people around you are talking about the situation constantly and this is causing you stress, remove yourself to a quiet place or ask them to change the subject. It is natural for people to want to discuss this issue, but it is important to ensure that we are not inducing more anxiety.

  • Wash your hands regularly and maintain good hygiene, but not to excess. Keeping clean should occur often but ensure that you are not being excessive or inducing compulsive behaviour.

  • Stay connected with people, particularly if you go into self-isolation. It is important to maintain contact with friends and family via email, telephone and social media, as isolation can lead to loneliness.

  • During times of stress, pay attention to your own needs and feelings. If you are worried, stressed or feeling anxious know that this is a normal reaction to the situation but understand there are ways that help ease this. Talk to friends or family, stay informed using the appropriate information outlets and know that there are helplines available.

  • You can talk to:
  • IPS International Trainers, tutors and staff for advice, guidance and support.

  • Remploy Tel: 0300 456 8210 Email: apprentices@remploy.co.uk

  • No Panic www.nopanic.org.uk Tel: 0844 967 4848 (Mon to Fri, 10.00 to 22.00)
