BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) in General Engineering – Level 4

IPS offer the Level 4 Pearson BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) in General Engineering. HNC is the next step up for all learners who have undertaken a Level 3 BTEC in Engineering. Within this qualification, we currently offer two pathways –

  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

What You'll Learn

First Year units are the same for both pathways:

  • Engineering Design
  • Engineering Maths
  • Engineering Science
  • Operations and Plant Management

Second Year Electrical:

  • Thermodynamic
  • Electrical and Electronic Principles
  • Production Engineering for Manufacture
  • Engineering Project (externally set)

Second Year Mechanical:

  • Thermodynamic
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Production Engineering for Manufacture
  • Engineering Project (externally set)

Course Objective

  • Learners will gain a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning, as well as sector-specific units depending on their chosen pathway
  • This qualification will prepare learners to progress further onto either a Higher National Diploma or a full engineering degree.

Time Frame

This course is two years for a part-time student over two separate academic years, starting September and finishing May/June.

Additional Information

This qualification gives the opportunity for learners to progress further into Higher Education, either a Higher National Diploma (Level 5) or a Degree (Level 6).
