Our Level 3 Assessor Qualifications are designed for individuals who assess occupational competence, vocational achievement or both. Depending on your role, you can choose from qualifications covering assessment knowledge, workplace assessment, classroom assessment or the full Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA), allowing you to gain the qualification that best meets your needs.
This qualification is ideal for individuals who need to understand the theory behind assessment but are not yet carrying out assessments themselves. It is often chosen by those preparing to move into an assessor role, managers overseeing quality processes, or organisations wanting staff to understand assessment requirements.

As this route is knowledge-based, there is no requirement to assess learners in practice. It is therefore a strong starting point for anyone wanting to build confidence and understanding before progressing further.
This qualification is intended for individuals who assess learners in both workplace and training environments. It is commonly chosen by apprenticeship assessors, trainers, tutors and instructors who need to assess occupational competence as well as vocational skills, knowledge and understanding.
In addition to the assessment principles covered in Unit 1, learners will complete Unit 2 and Unit 3, enabling them to assess competence in the workplace and vocational achievement in classroom, workshop or training settings.

This qualification provides the broadest assessment scope and is ideal for those who need to assess learners across a range of settings, from real work environments through to structured training and education programmes.
This qualification is ideal for individuals who assess learners or employees within their real working environment. It is often chosen by apprenticeship assessors, workplace trainers, supervisors, and team leaders who are responsible for assessing occupational competence against workplace standards.

As this route includes practical assessment activity, learners must have access to individuals they can assess within a real work environment. It is therefore the ideal qualification for those who assess occupational competence in the workplace.
This qualification is ideal for individuals who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in a classroom, workshop, training centre or simulated environment. It is often chosen by tutors, trainers, instructors and those delivering vocational qualifications outside of the learner's normal workplace.

Like Option 3, this qualification includes Unit 1 and therefore covers the same assessment principles, planning requirements and quality assurance expectations. However, the key difference is that assessments are carried out within a training or educational setting rather than a real workplace. This makes the qualification ideal for those assessing learners undertaking vocational training programmes, practical activities and classroom-based learning.

Your initial meeting will take place remotely with an IPS trainer to discuss the qualification, your current role and the most suitable pathway for you. Following this, either face to face or remotely, an enrolment session will be arranged to guide you through the programme, set out the requirements and explain the evidence needed to successfully complete the qualification and create a plan of action that will involve yourself and those surrounding you to achieve all aims of the qualification.
You will receive ongoing support throughout your course, along with access to learning materials and guidance from your trainer. Please note, for qualifications requiring practical assessment units, you will need to identify two learners to work with in order to gather the required evidence for completion.
