This course is suitable for individuals who want to work - or do work - within the Social Care sector in either local authority or private care environments. It is also suitable for qualified practitioners who may not have yet covered dementia care in previous qualifications.

This course aims to develop the learner’s understanding, knowledge and awareness of dementia for individuals working in social care settings. It is aimed at those working for local authorities or private commercial homeowners. Learners will develop an understanding and awareness of the causes of dementia, which could allow for progression into employment in social care settings.

In order to achieve the Certificate, learners are required to successfully complete 4 mandatory units:
Unit 01 - Understanding the process and experience of dementia
Unit 02 - Understanding the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
Unit 03 - Understanding the role of communication and interactions with individuals who have dementia
Unit 04 - Understanding the diversity of individuals with dementia and the importance of inclusion

 

  • Upon completion, progression opportunities include the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care
