Principles of Dementia Care (Level 2)
This course is suitable for anyone who works within the Health and Social Care sector who may be caring for individuals with dementia to increase their knowledge on the principles surrounding this care.
The course will focus on how to use a bench and/or pedestal drill safely. Candidates will also be shown how to use a selection of hand tools safely so that a selection of materials can be cut and sized accurately. The main focus of the training is to allow the candidate to use this variety of equipment to produce a finished test piece to size and tolerance. The candidate will also be shown how to use standard industrial measuring equipment during this part of the training.
- This course aims to develop the learner’s understanding and knowledge of the principles of caring for individuals with dementia. The course covers aspects such as person-centred care, the influence of positive communication methods, issues relating to the use of medication for individuals with dementia and the importance of providing appropriate activities.
In order to achieve the Certificate, learners are required to successfully complete 7 mandatory units:
Unit 01 - Dementia awareness
Unit 02 - The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
Unit 03 - Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
Unit 04 - Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
Unit 05 - Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia, using a person-centred approach
Unit 06 - Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
Unit 07 - Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
A 12 week course.
Learners can study at a time and place convenient to them. Designed for study by distance learning at work or home. You will receive the course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support by phone, email and one support session. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to 12 weeks from the date of registration.
