The Standard is called Engineering Technician (the job role is Mechatronics).
It is a multi-skill Standard and encompasses both Mechanical and Electrical engineering. The following Standard reflects the employer’s requirements for the complex blend of skills, knowledge, and behaviours across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems disciplines.
Engineering Technical Support Technicians work as part of a team to provide technical support and expertise for all areas of Engineering and Manufacturing.
They will be able to work with minimal supervision, taking responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and timely delivery of the work they undertake. They will be proactive in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas for improving the business.
Typically 42-48 months, but timescales may vary depending on occupational role and/or prior relevant qualifications/experience and assessment of prior learning and knowledge.
The delivery of this apprenticeship standard requires a full year off the Job training at the IPS Training centre. In the first year, the apprentice will attend our workshop four days in the week, completing practical skills within the IPS Rochester workshop (foundation competence units) and they will attend one day studying the technical certificate. In year 2 the apprentice moves to day release and will attend the training centre one day per week to continue the Technical certificate. Starting in year 2 and continuing until they are ready for end point assessment in year 4. The apprentice will continue to receive regular training contact with IPS all throughout the programme.
Progression is available for the Apprentice to move to a higher Apprenticeship or higher education.
