The Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship standard will guide and inspire teams to make positive differences in someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological, or intellectual challenges. They will be a leader of the care team and will develop and implement a values-based culture at a service or unit level.

Leaders in adult care may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, community day centres, a person’s own home, or some clinical healthcare settings.

The Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship standard will guide and inspire teams to make positive differences in someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological, or intellectual challenges. They will be a leader of the care team and will develop and implement a values-based culture at a service or unit level. They may be responsible for business development, financial control, organisational resilience, and continuity as well as for managing risk and leading organisational change.

This role has a large element of leadership, whether with other care workers and networks or in leading the service itself. They have a responsibility to ensure the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs, and well-led. They may be a registered manager, deputy, or assistant manager of a service. They will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance with the care given and the values and training of staff within established standards and regulations

The minimum duration for this apprenticeship standard is 18 months plus 3 months for EPA.

The completion of this apprenticeship standard will require monthly training visits from a qualified IPS trainer to help support the apprentice with developing skills and progress in the building of a portfolio of evidence to prepare the learner for the end-point assessment. The awarding organisation used to achieve this apprenticeship standard is City & Guilds.

Opportunities may also be available to progress to an ILM Level 6 Diploma in Management providing they are in an appropriate job role. Opportunities may also be available to progress to a Level 6 Chartered Manager apprenticeship.
